Over the years, I’ve developed what you might call a following of recall patients. Some have had work done out of the country while others were misdiagnosed; either way, it often means that I need to fix something that shouldn’t be an issue to begin with. Ultimately, pain is what leads a lot of these patients to me. Some of them have been putting up with it for years until they finally find themselves in my chair. And once they do, it’s my mission to get to the root cause of what’s happening. From fixing misaligned teeth to help with painful teeth grinding to solving sinus issues through dental work, I treat the cause, not just the symptoms.
Dr. Sameer Bilal, DDS, is a general dentist with advanced experience in aesthetic dentistry and smile makeovers, often treating multi-generational families. Originally from Pakistan, he relocated to the US over ten years ago with his parents, who inspired and supported him to achieve his dream of becoming a dentist.
The recipient of numerous awards, including the American Society of Dental Aesthetics Smigel Scholar Award, the ASDA Award of Excellence, and the International College of Dentists USA Section Leadership Award, his work as a dentist is an extension of his desire to improve his patient's health and well-being through thorough, compassionate care.
A graduate of Touro College of Dental Medicine, he holds a Bachelor of Applied Science (BASc) in Pre-Dentistry Studies from the University of Houston.
When speaking with his patients, Dr. Bilal emphasizes that developing a good oral health care routine early in life is a top priority. “The reality is that you need to take care of your teeth, or you risk losing them. And losing teeth has significant impacts beyond aesthetics; it affects overall health.”
Dr. Bilal points out that losing back teeth can lead to chronic headaches and bone loss, while the front teeth play a major role in helping us to enunciate words. Collaborating regularly with an orthodontist, particularly for his younger patients, he works tirelessly to diagnose early signs of oral issues to prevent problems later in life.
“With all the technology we have today, nothing can replace natural teeth. And that’s why I do everything I can to help my patients keep theirs for life.”
“Until I became a dentist, I had no idea the lengths people went to to hide their smiles. From wearing a mask outside to refusing to smile in a family photo, many people are prevented from doing things they want to because of their teeth.
“I’ve seen firsthand how a little aesthetic work to correct things like crooked or stained teeth can make a huge difference in someone’s life—and how that confidence translates into positive outcomes, whether it’s being more comfortable speaking publicly or approaching someone special. Knowing that a patient has gained more self-esteem because of the work I do is incredibly rewarding.”
"Many people believe that dentistry is not a form of health care and can be postponed, but I have discovered time and again that it often serves as the underlying issue for many health problems."
Dr. Bilal is deeply committed to investing his time and energy in patient education. He believes that educating patients is crucial for helping them understand how underlying oral health issues can significantly impact their overall physical health.
While many dentists focus on treatment over patient follow-up, Dr. Bilal makes sure to educate his patients about oral health as part of their ongoing care and support.
“In dental school, I sometimes felt like no matter how hard we tried, the information was often outdated. Once I graduated, I knew the skill set, but I wanted to further master my clinical skills in a professional setting so I began taking every CE course I could.”
Dr. Bilal’s commitment to furthering his clinical expertise has spurred him to take advanced courses in Invisalign, dentures, and crowns, before moving on to patient courses, which he credits as being instrumental to his understanding of how to safely manage pain, bone loss, and anesthetic.
“These courses introduced me to pharmacology and taught me how to be careful about dosing as well as the best bone graft to use. I’ve incorporated all of this into my practice and my patients are thrilled with the results. From painless anesthetic to the best pain management techniques, my continuing education has taught me to think outside the box and provide valuable solutions for my patients.”
